Classes

Class space is generally limited to 10-12 students. If you are taking a class but will miss a session or two, you may make up the sessions during drop-in at no extra charge. Once the class has begun, there are no refunds without manager approval.

Description:
"Cables are a mainstay of knitting, but the technique for knitting them WITHOUT cabling needles has eluded many expert knitters. Overcome your fear of cabling and at the same time learn a technique that is faster and easier than the standard technique which uses an extra needle to twist the yarn. Description:
Having trouble with your current project? Maybe you need help with a new technique. This class is to help you through the rough patches, or just to get you started. You can pay before or after class, and you need only take as many sessions as you like.

Your current project, or some needles and yarn to learn with.

Description:
This is your chance to sit with Pat and get tips for finishing your project and learn more advanced techniques.  UFO stands for Unfinished Object and if you come in for this class your enthusiasm will re-ignite to see it through to the end. Class size limited to 6. This class will not meet until the first Saturday in September 2007. Pat is teaching other classes until then - check the schedule.

Required Materials:
Your unfinished project, notions, scissors and whatever else you will need.  You can bring  in more than one project.

Description:
Make your own yarn!  Jenna takes you through fiber selection, drop spindle techniques, plying and finishing your skeins.

Description:
Want to learn the basics at your own speed?  Stuck in your crochet project?  Jump into a pattern that might be just a bit over your head?  Come in to Drop-in Crochet and get help, advice, tips and tricks.  It's only $12 per session.

Come in early if you are just starting or starting something new and we'll help you select your project, hook and pattern.

Description:
Create your own unique pair of socks using time-tested techniques. This class will cover the start to finish of plant-dying a sock blank to knitting your own fabluous creation.
Class 1 - Prepping the sock blank for dying
Class 2 - Plant-dying the sock blank using dyes such as cochineal, weld, chammomile, logwood, indigo and others
Class 3 - Starting the sock
Class 4 - Turning the heel and gusset
Class 5 - Foot
Class 6 - Finishing the toe

Notes:  The class will NOT meet on April 26th.  The third session will meet for three hours (April 19th).

Description:
Have you ever admired the fabulously sexy bed jackets worn by heroines of 1940's and 1950's cinema? Now is your chance to create your very own lingerie-styled garment that can be worn in the bedroom and beyond. This jacket is worked in stockinette and a garter rib for the border. Please know how to knit and purl.

Putting one stitch in front of the other is how we get through a project.  It's also how we can get through a life.  The rhythm of knitting is far more than just a soothing past time, it can be a window to the workings of our soul.  


By accepting that the worst that can happen when we expand our knitting horizon might be an ugly stitch - but a great deal of earned knowledge - we better understand that our mistakes and missteps in life - if wholeheartedly embraced and accepted - increase our wisdom.


Perfection is a false prize, joy is the goal and courage is the way to get there!

The first of three projects from Nikolyn's Naughty Knitting series.  Feel knitterly and sexy from the innermost layer out!  Knit yourself a custom-made French-style bra and panty set.  You'll need to know the basics of knitting and be ready for some nicely naughty knitting.

Description:
In this class we talk about how to diagnose and repair knitting that has gone wrong somehow. We will fix dropped stitches and mis-crossed cables. We will learn to recognize twisted stitches, knit and purl stitches, and how to use lifelines and tink.

Required Materials:
Light coloured worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles for trying out some of the techniques we will be doing in class.

Note-taking materials if you wish.

Description:
You've learned to knit and purl.  You've got decreases down.  Everyone you know now has a hand knit scarf or washcloth.  What next?  Your first sweater!  We'll help you get comfortable reading a pattern and adjusting for the perfect fit.

Required Materials:
Knitting Pure and Simple sweater pattern.
Appropriate yarn (our sales staff can help you pick it out)
Needles called for in the pattern.

Description:
This class is designed to teach you the basics of knitting. Cast-on, Knit, Purl, Increase, Decrease, and Cast Off all by the end of the third session. You will learn by knitting three different washcloths so that you can actually use your first projects.

NOTE--May class does not meet May 20th, but rather May 6th, 13th, and then resumes on the 27th.

Description:
"Each student will create a swatch based on the Fall Vogue Knitting 2005 cover sweater (designed by the instructor ).  In this class students will use their measurements to determine the correct size of a cocoon sweater and perfect sleeve placement.  The student and will work up a swatch utilizing all techniques used in creating the VK sweater. After finishing our swatches, the students will begin on their own sweaters and we will work on issues as they arise as the students work through their projects.  Students will NOT finish the entire sweater in class." - anniemodesitt.com

Required Materials:
Any worsted weight yarn is suitable. Mix it up and use a solid with a variegated, or two variegated yarns to get really wild! For a subtler effect, use similar tones or colours that go well together.

Each student should bring:
800 - 1,000 yds Yarn A
400 - 500 yds Yarn B
200 - 300 yds Yarn C (For Edging)

Now you'll have the opportunity to be mentored by Marta when you join her class starting May 31st from 10:15 am-12:15 pm for 3 weeks to knit the Needle Felted Bucket Bag, exclusively from TinkkniT.com and available at Abundant Yarn.

Description:
Ever wondered if you too could master the magic of spinning animal fibers into glorious yarns?  It's easier than you think, and we can show you how.  All materials provided, wheel rental $10.00, please bring your own wheel if you have one.

Class will meet from 9-4, with a break of one hour for lunch.

Description:
Take your garment from "ho-hum" to "wow!"  Learn how to embellish your garments with surface embroidery using stitches such as blanket, feather, or daisy. Even non-knitters can use stitch embroidery to personalize garments, or revitalize garments plucked from the back of the closet or picked up at Goodwill.

Required Materials:
*At least four swatches to practice stitches on; could be knit, crocheted, felted, or store-bought.  Each swatch should measure at least 6" by 6"

*Darning needle

*Stash/extra yarn

*Graph paper (optional, to chart any embroidery patterns you like)

*Any garments you might want to embellish

Description:
You've seen it at the store.  Maybe it looks a little daunting.  You'd like to make one, but some help would be nice.  Join Donavan on the first Saturday of every month to practice the stitches, review the techniques, and clarify the instructions.  This one hour class won't get you a finished block, but it will start you off in the right direction.

Block #1 "socks" - April 5  Block #2 - May 3  Block #3 - June 7 ... you get the idea.

Class is $8 per session, and you may pick and choose the months you'd like to come.

****PLEASE NOTE: May's block-of-the-month will be held the SECOND Saturday, due to the Tigard Knitting Guild's Shop Hop lunch, which will take place on May 3rd.
